Orthopedic Surgeons

Dr. Rajan PatelDr. Rajan Patel, Medical Director

After graduating from medical school Dr. Patel started his surgical internship at UCLA Medical Center. He then completed his orthopedic residency at Albert Einstein/ LIJ Medical Center in New York. During residency Dr. Patel presented several research papers at Orthopedic Research Society, American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, and various other academic meetings. He served as the team physician for professional league baseball, soccer, tennis and hockey athletes. He also was a clinical instructor in several national orthopedic courses for shoulder reconstructive procedures.

His interest in adult reconstruction led him to complete an additional year of fellowship training in joint reconstruction at the University of Pennsylvania where he crafted his skills in complex adult reconstruction of the shoulder, hip, and knee. Along with primary and revision joint reconstruction, his other clinical interests include minimally invasive surgery, alternative bearings for joint reconstruction, CAS (computer assisted surgery), and orthobiologic applications in orthopedics surgery. He also has a private orthopedic practice.

Dr. Patel holds two unique board certifications in orthopedic surgery and sports medicine, along with a fellowship in adult reconstruction. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and Arthroscopic Association of North America. He is also Qualified Medical Examiner (Q.M.E) for the State of California Industrial Medical Council.

Dr. Alidad Ghiassi

Dr. Ghiassi graduated high school in Sherman Oaks California and attended University of California at San Diego for his undergraduate studies. While obtaining a Bachelors degree in Bio-medical Engineering and volunteering at Scripss Memorial Hospital, he discovered his passion for medicine. He graduated Cum Laude with a minor in humanities and Farsi language from UCSD. He attended USC-Keck School of Medicine and completed his orthopedic internship and Residency at USC-LAC Medical Center. He subsequently pursued a Hand and Micro-vascular surgery fellowship at UCLA Medical Center with Dr. Roy Meals and Neil Ford Jones.

In 2000 he joined the UCLA faculty and started his teaching career at the Wodsworth VA Medical Center in West Los Angeles. He joined Dr. Roy Meals for a short period before becoming part of the USC Department of Orthopedic Surgery in 2008. As the chief of Hand and Upper extremity, service at LAC-USC Medical Center, Dr. Ghiassi has managed numerous patients with complex and upper extremity injuries. In 2015, he expanded his practice and re-joined Dr. Roy Meals in Westwood, while continuing his educational efforts at USC Keck school of medicine.

Dr. Ghiassi has multiple ongoing research projects in hand and upper extremity injuries. He has an interest in hand, wrist and elbow trauma with multiple peer reviewed publications and presentations at local and regional meetings. He also enjoys treating common hand disorders including peripheral nerve injuries, osteoarthritis and sporting injuries. His philosophy of care aims at understanding the patients’ needs and alleviating their symptoms in a kind compassionate manner.


Dr. Joseph Isaacson

As a private practice orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Isaacson specializes in working with children and people with congenital abnormalities and small stature as well as joint reconstructive surgery in young adults. Dr. Isaacson has his own orthopedic practice and works at City of Hope with childhood cancer patients. He is a Clinical Assistant Professor in Orthopedics at the University of Southern California and a member of the medical staff at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles where he has served on many medical committees including the Medical Executive Committee. He is also on staff at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he has held more than 14 committee and board offices.

Dr. Melvin NutigDr. Melvin Nutig

Dr. Nutig has had a long and distinguished career in orthopedic surgery, and he is proud of his position as one of the senior members of the Beverly Hills Orthopedic Group. He is a general orthopedic surgeon with a special interest in sports medicine, as well as shoulder, elbow, hip and knee surgery, and has his own orthopedic practice. He was also an early champion of telemedicine, the use of modern communication technology for the delivery of medical care where it might otherwise not be available. He has been recognized as an expert in the field, both locally and nationally.


Dr. Peter NewtonDr. Peter Newton

Dr. Newton began his orthopedic training in New York City with an orthopedic research fellowship at Columbia University. Thereafter, he did his general surgery internship at St. Luke’s/Roosevelt Hospital followed by his orthopedic residency at the New York Orthopedic Hospital, Columbia University, College of Physicians and Surgeons. He then spent an additional year in San Diego, obtaining a fellowship in Sports Medicine, Arthroscopic surgery, and knee and shoulder reconstructive surgery. He has his own practice specializing in orthopedic surgery.


Dr. Andrew WeissDr. Andrew Weiss

Dr. Weiss attended medical school at the University of California, Los Angeles School of Medicine where he graduated honors/ Alpha Omega Alpha and then completed at an orthopedic surgery residency at UCLA/ Harbor Medical Center. Dr. Weiss is a Board certified Diplomate of the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons. He serves on staff at Cedar Sinai Medical Center and Olympia Medical Center. He also serves on the the faculty of Harbor/UCLA Medical Center.


Dr. Eric MillsteinDr. Eric Millstein

Dr. Millstein has presented research on long-term outcomes of ACL reconstruction and arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine and the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery and remains active in teaching other surgeons complex arthroscopic techniques as a complement to his clinical practice.


Dr. Sonu AhluwaliaDr. Sonu Ahluwalia

Dr. Ahluwalia received his orthopaedic training at the Harvard Combined Orthopaedic Surgery Residency Program in Boston, one of the most sought after training programs in orthopaedic surgery. He completed a fellowship in Shoulder Surgery at Massachusetts General Hospital (Harvard Medical School) in Boston. He is trained in arthroscopic repair of rotator cuffs and cartilage repair of the shoulder as well as conventional and reverse shoulder replacement surgery. His fellowship in Sports Medicine was completed at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. This is accredited by the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine. He has a private orthopedic practice and is trained in advance techniques for knee arthroscopy and ligament reconstruction along with other sports related conditions.

Dr. Steven MeierDr. Steven Meier

Dr. Meier’s areas of focus involve shoulder, knee and athletic injuries and the surgical and non-surgical treatment of these conditions.  His emphasis is on minimally-invasive arthroscopic surgery and he has a particular interest in all-arthroscopic repair for rotator cuff injury and shoulder instability as well as reconstructive cartilage and knee ligament surgery.  His specialized training provides him with expertise in using state-of-the-art, arthroscopic techniques for treating problems of the shoulder, knee, elbow, hip and ankle.
